Supporting the International Baccalaureate
through Survival Training
Elite Survival Training offers a unique and inspirational outdoor activity for IB students, providing the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills, attitudes and values through hands on, forest-based experiences. Through lively demonstrations and the application of practical survival techniques, students will develop timeless survival skills which have real world applications. Students will be led through outdoor activities by a team of highly qualified instructors. These instructors have many years experience working with students of all ages and abilities, using encouragement and enthusiasm to inspire groups to achieve their goals.
Most important of all, your students will have fun!
Activities are designed to be fully inclusive and non-physical. Survival experiences can be fully customised to meet budget, timing and educational requirements. We will travel to any suitable location near your school.
designed to support the Middle
Years International Baccalaureate Programme curriculum:
We have developed our activities around the IB ‘Areas of interaction’, as these are embedded and natural elements of the wider IB curriculum and a means for ‘inspiring special activities’. In particular, we focus on:
• Approaches to learning through inspirational team activity and reflective group work;
• Community and service through consideration of the needs and concerns of other people, within the immediate group and globally;
• Environments through developing an understanding of global sustainability and individual environmental responsibilities;
• Health and social education through participation in emergency situation simulations and taking responsibility for the care of others.
challenges
Choose from a number of course types:
HALF DAY | FULL DAY | 24 HOURS | UP TO A FULL WEEK
Types of challenges included in the courses are:
shelter building
Students will work in small teams to build a variety of emergency shelters using a combination of natural and man-made materials. They’ll learn how to pick the right spot and the right materials to make a shelter that is secure and weatherproof.
fire lighting
Students will learn the most effective way to light a fire using local materials such as silver birch, bark and dried grass. The students will receive close guidance and support, with firm emphasis on preparation and safety.
camping out
Using the shelters they built earlier in the day, students will now have the chance to sleep out under the stars. This could be in the school grounds or in local woodland.
first aid
We are 100% committed to the safety of our students. We make sure they learn a range of valuable wilderness first aid skills from treating a twisted ankle to practising CPR.
problem solving & teamwork
Students will face several challenging problem-solving tasks. This could range from building a shelter, filtering water,
signalling for help. Such cooperative activity will encourage them to learn the value of team work and communication.
search & rescue skills
Students will learn how to search a large area of land to find a missing person. On finding them, they will have to make a stretcher and carry that person back to safety. A great exercise in team-work!
signalling
Students will learn several methods of signalling for help using a mirror, space blankets and signal fire to name just a few.
final team challenge
Teams will complete a search and rescue exercise putting all their new found skills to the test. The team exercise will allow students to bring their new found practical skills together, incorporating these with communications, team work and prioritisation. They will be pitched against the other teams as the ultimate showcase for their learning.
