survival mindset – the perfectly positive event
for Corporate Away Days & Team Building Events in Northampton, leicester & Across the UK
have your team got the survival mindset?
Of course they have – we all have. It’s tied up with the flight-or-fight response. That pumped-up feeling we get when we realise we’re in trouble. We use the survival mindset far more often than you might think. At work. There’s a crisis brewing. Amongst all the urgent tasks to be completed, one project must be signed off in the next few hours. The team leader has been taken ill, and we’re short of people. How should we prioritise? The question isn’t whether we have the survival mindset, it’s – how well do we use it?
There’s no better way to improve your people’s response to challenge than with a half or full day with …
John Sullivan Explorer | Survivalist | Inspirational Speaker
The course starts with a positive mindset presentation, followed by practical survival challenges and concluding with a de-brief and awards for the champions.

Full day event – six hours
part 1 – presentation by the mindset maestro, John Sullivan
John Sullivan is the mindset maestro. Few men understand better the art of the positive mindset – how to turn a negative into a positive. And few men are better at imparting this mindset to others. Taking your audience on a journey of adventure, suspense and discovery, John brings together a wealth of personal experiences and will encourage your people to reflect on and evaluate their own professional and personal experiences. He will help the team to not fear change or adversity, but to embrace it – to learn that they are a part of life – that being a victim is a matter of choice.
topics covered
• Creative thinking & risk-taking
• Self discipline & preparation
• Overcoming adversity
• Leadership & fostering morale
• Embracing change
• The courage to be yourself
part 2 – practical session
This is where the work (and the fun!) really starts. Your teams will carry out a variety of outdoor team building activities and challenges related to the mindset topics covered in the presentation. Successful completion of the tasks will earn them Jungle Dollars, with the team earning the most Dollars being declared Survival Champions. Examples of the challenges include:
shelter building – outdoors
In the wild, you’ll need somewhere to rest and sleep that will also give you shade from the sun. Working with your colleagues you will learn to construct a basic shelter.
search & rescue skills- outdoors
You’ll be taught how to search large areas of land to find a missing person and your team will have to create a stretcher to carry the person back to safety.
Navigation – outdoors
Equipped with the knowledge and understanding of how to use a compass, will you be able to navigate your way back to safety?
snake pit challenge – outdoors & indoors
Team members will have to negotiate a set path that is littered with rubber snakes. However, you’ll also be blindfolded so it’s up to your team to provide you with directions on where to tread.
water source challenge – outdoors & indoors
Using bamboo, ropes, guttering and other materials supplied, you and your colleagues have to build a free-standing structure. The ultimate test will be whether you can get water to flow from point A to B.
plane crash – outdoors & indoors
Working as part of a team in this plane crash scenario, you and your teammates will have to prioritise items that you have managed to salvage from an aircraft for your survival. Requiring decision-making skills as well as strong negotiation tactics, will your team agree on specific items?
part 3 – De-brief & Awards
The course concludes with a de-brief and presentation of awards for the Survival Champions!
